Mega Man Legends 3 Fan Story: Chapter 7Urakoi Island and the Final Missing Shard:Over in another body of water, Barret and Aero were riding on their hover bike, in hopes of finding another island that might house another piece of the ancient refractor after nearly losing the other piece in Pauran Island from the Bonnes. “Man, this sucks a lot.” Barrett said. “Don’t let that get to your head so much Barrett,” Aero said, trying to help him feel reassured. “I know that our luck will far off better than last time.” “I sure hope you’re right about that.” Barrett replied, feeling a bit nervous. “Hold on, what’s that?!” he shouted, after stopping the hover bike and pointed at a huge island not far from where they were. The island Barrett was pointing at was not only huge, but it was actually a literal volcano. “Woah!” Aero shouted in shock. “I don’t remember seeing a volcano on the map before.” Suddenly, her refractor wrist tracker goes off, alerting her and Barrett. “Hang on, I picked up another fragment at this location.” she examined. “Really?” Barrett asked in confusion. “Strange, to think refractors could even be stored in areas like that. Well, I guess we’ll get going then.” In just a couple of seconds, both Barrett and Aero start making their way toward the volcano in hopes of finding the refractor shard.,After reaching the shore of the volcano, they both came across a sign that was labeled ‘Welcome to Urakoi Island!’ “Urakoi Island?” Aero asked while examining the sign. “Be on your guard, I think there are a bunch of reaverbots roaming around here.” Barrett stated with caution. Now knowing both the name of this mysterious volcanic island and it’s relation with housing one of the missing refractor shards, the two of them started heading up the volcanic island. During their trip, they come across a doorway, leading further inside of the volcano. “Alright, this door here must lead on to the ruins entrance of Urakoi. I’ll go on and investigate this premise, you go on and scout ahead for me.” Barrett explained. “You can count on me Barrett.” Aero replied. While she went back to the hover bike to set up her scouting for Barrett, he went inside the ruins entrance and started his journey to find the hidden refractor shard. After entering inside, Barrett felt like the temperature was a bit warmer than it was outside of the ruins. “Yo, Aero.” he said to her on his communicator. “Is it just me, or are the ruins a bit more warm than before?” Aero quickly examined the state of the ruins, before replying to him about the ruins. “Barrett, proceed with extreme caution here.” she warned him. “I’m picking up thousands of reaverbots that are infused with fire. I have also discovered a bunch of fire traps, lava moats that hurt, and it seems that the refractor shard is inside the volcano, but you will have to go through these ruins in order to reach it.” “You got it, these reaver-scums won’t see me coming right at them.” Barrett responded, as he stormed his way through the ruins. While exploring, Barrett discovered a little opening blocked by metal bars. He looked through, and saw a bunch of reaver bots below, most of them coming out of the lava itself. “Dude, these reaver bots keep coming in and out of the wood work so quickly these days.” He said in a perplexed tone. Moving forward, he stepped on a tile that sunk down a little, when a fire spout trap suddenly bursted upwards a few inches in front of him. “That was way too close.” he said to himself. “Barrett!” Aero shouted through his communication speaker. “What did I tell you earlier? Watch your surroundings for every step you take.” “Sorry, I’ll pay more attention next time.” Barrett apologized. However, Barrett didn’t just come across fire traps, he also discovered a bunch of explosive floors, falling rocks, even arrow traps from the walls. Further more, when going through one of the rooms, he found a chest that had a pair of rocket skates (basically the ‘jet skates from before, but are much more faster and can help you dash forward for a little bit). “Well well, I guess the ruins here does have a couple of items that could be of use for the next dugout I go on.” he said with a confident smile. After several more minutes of exploring the ruins, Barrett found an elevator. “Hey Aero, you think you could get the readings off of this elevator real quick?” he asked her. “I think we hit the jackpot!” Aero replied, I picked up readings that this elevator goes straight up to where the refractor shard is located.” “Nice, I’ll let you know ahead of time when I get the shard.” Barrett replied. “Alright, be careful out there Barrett, I’m starting to get the feeling that a huge reaver bot is guarding it.” Aero said. With no hesitation, Barrett made his way to the elevator system. He activated the control system, as he and the platform rose up to the insides of the volcano. As the elevator came to a stop, Barrett examined his location. He noticed that the area looked more like a temple of some kind, as he spotted the shard of the refractor placed on top of it. “Finally, an easy one for grabs.” he said with a cocky smile. While he walked towards the shard, a huge rumble came around him. Noticing that it wouldn’t be as easy for him as he said to himself, a huge pair of reaver bot chompers blasted right through the ground underneath the shard, swallowing the shard completely whole. Barrett looked up in fright, as the monster reaver bot revealed it’s self. “I just had to say something, didn’t I?” He said with a sigh, while face palming. The battle had commenced, as the reaver bot dug through the ground and started burrowing right towards Barrett. Noticing that this beast ment business, he dodge rolled out of the way, making the beast slam itself head first into a large bolder, stunning it in the process. Barrett saw this as a good opportunity to strike back, and started blasting right at the reaver bot with full force from his arm cannon. The beast then lunged upwards back into the middle, and started shooting out electric-fire infused blasts all over the area. Barrett soon noticed that all of the blasts were floating in place, until the all were homing in on him, giving him the realization to get out of their senses of range. Continuing onwards, Barrett was able to get the pattern down with all of the reaver bot’s moves, and managed to blow up the whole robot to smithereens. “Whew, that was intense.” he said, while wiping off some sweat off of his face. Suddenly, he saw the same refractor shard that the reaver bot ate earlier, as it slowly floated onto the same spot it was at. “Mission accomplished!” he said with pure confidence, as he grabbed a hold of the refractor piece and turned on his communicator to inform Aero the good news. “Yo Aero, I got the shard. Let’s head back to the Sulfur Bottom and inform the others.” However, he didn’t get a single response from her. “Aero? you okay?” Suddenly, a terrible realization from before came into his mind. “Oh no.” With little to no time wasted, Barrett starts halling as fast as he can to make his way back to Aero, thinking that she got captured by the Bonnes. After heading out of the entrance of the ruins, Barrett was out of breath and very exhausted after running down each of the corridors throughout the ruins. Not only that, he couldn’t find Aero anywhere. “Aero?! Aero! Where are You?!” ,Before he could find her, a giant green mech jumped right in front of him. “Hello again, red man.” Teisle said inside his mech. “Y….you monster!” Barrett yelled at him. “Whe….where is…Aero? What did….y….you do to h…..her?!” “Don’t do anything stupid, kid” Teisle Demanded, until he noticed Barrett slowly going unconscious. “Pl…please, don’t hurt her….she is all I have left….after the fall….of the Bright Bats….team…” Before he could say anything else, Barrett fell completely unconscious.“....arrett!........Barrett!” a faded voice said, before becoming clearer by every second. Barrett woke up, and saw Aero with her face covered in a few tears. “Aero!” he shouted, as he gave her a huge hug. “Hello there.” a familiar voice said to them both. Barrett and Aero looked beside them, and saw Mega Man and Roll in the same room as them. “What the?” Barrett said with a confused tone. “What are you guys doing here?” “We should be asking you that too.” Roll replied. “Me and Barrett were investigating the Urakoi Island ruins when we both got unconscious.” Aero explained. “Me and Roll finished finding a shard from Ilux island, only for the Bonnes surrounded us when we were both exhausted.” Mega Man stated. “Wait,” Barrett blurted out. “Does that mean?!” All of a sudden, a loud buzzer went off in the room they were all in. the door opened up, revealing two serve bots. “Come with us folks, the leaders of our ship would like to speak to you all!” Servebot #10 shouted. After knowing that they were all captured by the Bonnes, the four heroes were sent to the bridge of the Gesellschaft. They were all placed down in chairs side by side, when Teisle showed up in front of them all. “Alright you insignificant fools!” He sneared at them all. “We got you all captured here just so you won’t interfere with us in reclaiming the refractor.” “What are you trying to accomplish with the refractor?!” Roll shouted. “Shut your mouth over there blondie, my brother is the one you should be paying attention to right now.” Tron talked back. “Ahem, isn’t it obvious?!” Teisle continued. “We want to prove the world that pirates like the Bonnes can become real heroes, unlike you meddling kids.” “Will you never learn from your mistakes for once?” an oldish voice said. Everyone looked back, and saw Barrel Casket, along side Von Bluecher, Una, and Sera. “Gramps!” Mega and Roll shouted. “Wha!? What are you doing here old man?!” Teisle said. “To think you would go on a level of capturing my two grandchildren just so you could take the refractor for yourselves. Very pitiful if you ask me.” Barrel sneared at him. Teisle ‘who was starting to get agitated from what Barrel was saying to him’ walked up right in front of him, as they both started having a very heated argument. Eventually, Barrett had enough, so he walked over to them both and proceeded to stop them. “Hey! Gentlemen, this isn’t the best time to deal with these things!” he announced. “Listen, we all have a common goal, and I reckon that were close.” Teisle and Barrel took a few steps back after being calmed down. “Sorry about that, I guess we kind of lost a bit control.” Barrel said with a soft sigh. “Yeah, let’s get this over with,” Teisle replied. “I can’t think of anything else better so…” “ Master Teisle! The refractor!” a servebot said. Teisle and the others looked back, and saw something unbelievable. Over where Mega Man, Roll, Aero, and Tron’s area, the four refractor shards started floating in thin air for a while, slowly“What is it doing?” Roll asked Megaman. “I don’t know, I’ve never seen anything like this before.” he replied. In an instant, the four pieces finally formed back into a huge cyan-greenish refractor, but it was still floating in mid air. Mega Man touched the refractor, as it started glowing brighter a bit, and summoned a powerful beam of energy through the front glass windows of the bridge, pointing at a place far away. “Wait, I think the refractor is showing us where the control point is located. Let's follow it’s direction.” In just a couple of minutes, everyone prepared for travel, as the Gesellschaft started heading north where the refractor was heading, making their way to the control point of the reaver bots....

Past DataA Megaman one-shot in a series.Summary: Another merge effect of unfamiliar data appearing intrigues a strange navi- but they might not be the only one it could affect.Story on fanfiction.net Story on Archive on Our Own Megaman series on Archive of Our Own---------------------------------------------------------- Raika typed on his laptop in “his” room in Sci-lab for a class assignment. Yet again, he was in Netopia, summoned by another cross fusion mission, surprisingly after a short while after the latter time he had been in the country. He sighed slightly, pausing in his typing. He was still able to travel to Netopia, merge effects aside. Of course, it helped that now he was allowed to travel via reverse cross fusion (though he was always accompanied by a navi), which created a much shorter time frame than generic travel. Frowning a bit, he went back to typing on a geography assignment. A few minutes later, though, he stopped again, wincing at a sudden sharp pain in his right arm. Looking down, he was immensely surprised to see what looked like part of a navi’s dark brown armor forming just above his elbow, slowly making its way up to his shoulder. “Searchman-” he started, not sure how to continue. “I have already contacted the medical doctor on shift,” his navi responded. Raika then gasped as the armor suddenly dissolved, fading away as individual pixels flung themselves upward. He sighed, not just at the relief from the pain, but also that he would possibly need to be scanned even earlier than had been planned, as had occurred before with other odd merge effects. “Your armor is a different hue,” he murmured, staring at his now armor-less sleeve. “Perhaps the scan will discover the source,” Searchman stated. Raika nodded, a bit distracted at the thought of another merge effect that he did not want to deal with. He was certainly himself, though, and definitely not wanting to be in his laptop or PET as a navi- -The area around him suddenly shifted to see a cyber world with various navis either standing or meandering on a cyber road. To his surprise, the viewpoint that he saw from suddenly shifted to the left, then to the right, then a slightly uneven bobbing gait as if someone were walking. He could not feel anything- it was unnerving to see something without any sensible motion to go with it, not to mention that it definitely was not supposed to be that way in the first place. He saw the view move to turning around and opening up the clear door of a navi chip store. Raika could see small line of navis in front of a counter, but there was only a small wait, including one taller navi that had apparently forgotten that his net op already had one certain chip, and quickly left. The cyber clerk looked right at “Raika” with large brown eyes behind a visor. “What can I do for you?” she asked friendlily. A tone that Raika did not recognize responded, apparently from the viewpoint that Raika saw. “Three hinge chips- one fire based, and the other lightning,” a male tone replied. “My net op needs them for rebuilding a small space ship.” The clerk nodded happily as she typed in the order on the keyboard in front of her. “All set,” she said less than a minute later. “Thank you- my net op’s busy with school things, but he likes his brothers- all three of them. His sister likes to play with models, too, but not quite as much as her new glowing jump rope.” The clerk chuckled, and the viewpoint moved outside the door. The same voice chatted with a few more unfamiliar navis about mundane topics, including humans complaining about computer troubles and troubles with the four inch snowfall from the day previous. Despite the odd situation, Raika sighed inwardly at the latter, but of course areas that were not used to dealing with snow did not have the methods to properly deal with it. The navi moved a few steps toward the left- -The view then suddenly shifted back to his laptop, which had gone into power-saving mode. Raika sagged, his strength suddenly immensely diminished. He was surprised as strong arms suddenly caught him before he embarrassingly crumpled to the floor. “Raika, are you all right?” a familiar voice asked. He winced a bit as he recognized one of Sci-lab’s medical doctor’s, Dr. Highton. The doctor helped him onto his bed, though Raika could not sit up completely by himself. “I came into the room after Searchman had contacted me,” the doctor continued. “However, you were just staring and were not responsive when I spoke.” “I just feel weakness now,” Raika admitted. “And . . . I don’t know what it was from, but I saw what seemed to be a navi’s viewpoint in the cyber world but no emotions or otherwise involved. It may have been Dentech’s Net City, but not necessarily.” “Did you recognize who it was?” “No,” Raika replied wearily. “I did not recognize any of the navis there, either.” He would almost assume that it could be part of his “twin’s” missing memories, except the situation seemed too different for him. He also had not recognized the voice that spoke, and he knew that the runaway “twin” had only been in Sci-lab’s network, not in any sort of Net City. Plus, the height of the navi had seemed definitely taller than himself or the chimeric twin. He also briefly thought of the chimeric enemy navi that had escaped from Sci-lab, but again the voice and the circumstances in the brief scene had seemed to belong to a different type of cyber being. “Do you feel any pain now?” Dr. Highton then asked. “Searchman said it hurt you when there was data on your arm a bit earlier.” Raika shook his head, despising the weakness. He then allowed the doctor to help him to his bed. “You will need to be scanned, but when you feel a little better,” the doctor ordered, “unless others say otherwise. Have Searchman send any more anomalies, with you or himself if they occur. I’m sure that Dr. Hikari and others would want to stay updated on this.” Raika nodded wearily, wishing that he was not just a “case” to be solved, including medically. He had still the merge, then the chimera twin incident had occurred. How he wished that his circumstances were usual again . . . He hoped that his energy would be restored soon, so he would not be prevented from being on any official missions that day. ---------------------------------------- “Did Dr. Hikari’s new program work?” Chaud asked seriously from where he sat at one of Sci-lab’s cafeteria tables beside Raika. “I know that it would have been done the last time you were here. I wasn’t here when he did it with you, and I did not get a chance to ask you until now.” Raika nodded. “Yes, it did, just as well as I would assume it had with you and Lan.” He did not add that as had been predicted by his Netopian superiors, he had been transferred into the new room showing armor that resembled Searchman’s. The two younger net savers still did not know that he could transfer to the cyber world by himself, and vice-versa for his navi. Searchman had also gone to the human realm and tried the program with positive results (once he had rested, as he and Raika always did when transferring to either realm by themselves). Unfortunately, Chaud seemed to be thinking about something that could potentially lead to the topic. “So Famous had mentioned that your results might be different somehow with the program, due to you and Searchman’s merge,” he stated. “Were they?” Raika could not hide a slight blush, and knew that the other net saver would see the unusual hesitation. He was then interrupted by the far side door of the room opening. He turned to see Rush heading toward the table he was at, and guessed that the cyber dog was heading for Chaud, as he knew him better. However, Rush stopped right beside him, holding what looked like small folded piece of paper. Rush barked twice, holding out the paper. “Are you sure that is for me?” Raika asked, a bit confused. As far as he knew, the only people that knew him in Sci-lab would just message him electronically if they needed to send a note or request. Rush nodded, his short tail wagging furiously. Still baffled, Raika took the paper. Rush then shook his head, and yanked it from his grip with a surprisingly strong hold, opened it, then gave it back. Raika looked at the paper, which, to his embarrassment seemed to hold “get well” greetings, as well as various drawings of stars, unicorns, and a few battling navis around the words. He then looked at the bottom of the page to see a signature- the daughter of one of the scientists that came to Sci-lab every now and then. He was not quite sure how many people in Sci-lab knew about his merge, but it seemed a bit much for a random civilian daughter to know about his weakness earlier that day. “Are they talking about when you were separated?” Chaud asked carefully, his face rather confused. “Though it seems a bit late for that, as it happened the last time that you were here, unless they just meant to give it to you then and couldn’t for some reason.” Raika could somewhat understand his unease- he was not sure how he would react if someone he knew had been torn apart in the cyber world as he had for a short while. Chaud (and even Lan) had mostly avoided him then, seeming to think that he was not truly himself somehow, even though even Dr. Hikari had said that “his half” had been the one to hold his memories. He supposed that it did not help that the other chimeric twin had even looked slightly closer to his usual appearance than he had at that point. He was not also sure how much either of them truly thought that he was again his whole self. For the most part, the two younger net savers that he battled alongside in Netopia had even seemed to purposely not mention the topic, for which he was actually grateful. It seemed that no one, besides Searchman, would actually understand his slight longing to see his chimeric twin again . . . He briefly wondered how Chaud (or Lan) had not specifically asked how he and his “chimera twin” had been remerged yet, since Dr. Hikari’s new program was only capable of scanning the humans that entered there, not doing any testing, but was just glad that the topic had not come up yet. He was at least glad that he had heard word that simplistic testing was apparently close for the program, though. Perhaps they even somehow surmised that reverse cross fusion helped, even though the thought even seemed rather queer in the first place. “The card was probably for something else,” Raika started reluctantly. Obviously not everyone knew about everything occurred with him and Searchman, though, even if random visitors might, for whatever odd reason. He winced at another sharp pain, this time in his left shoulder. Rush yelped in fright, pointing unnecessarily to the now golden should pad forming there, with a bit of dark brown armor underneath. The armor suddenly quickly formed into a blue cyber sword, tinged with heat. Unbalanced with a sudden loss of energy, Raika suddenly fell forward onto the tiled flooring, just managing to bring his arm upward enough to not gouge a hole into the ground. He could still see black marks where the glowing side touched the floor, and wincing, managed to rise to his knees to bring the hot blade upward so that it did not damage anything else. He did not know why he felt weakness with just the data this time, but it could possibly be since there was more of a change, or even that it had occurred again. “How-” Chaud started, his voice utterly baffled, interlaced with concern. Raika brought his other arm to help hold the other one with the added weight. “I am not sure,” he responded truthfully. “I was scanned earlier this morning, but nothing was discovered then. The only incident where something similar occurrence was earlier in the day.” He heard Chaud call to his navi to alert authorities, then knelt down beside him. “Are you all right?” Chaud asked worriedly. Raika brought his aching arm a little bit closer to his chest, but not so much that he would accidentally spear himself. “I would hope so,” he muttered. “This only has happened once before, and with just some armor, not the sword.” He was relieved as the data then suddenly vanished again, fading just as quickly as before. He plummeted onto the hard floor, glad that at least he was (apparently) just with human appearances again. Searchman or Chaud did not immediately notify of any oddities that he could not see or feel, though. Chaud helped him to lean against one of the table’s legs, and he slumped against it wearily, despising the weakness. “Do you know what it is from?” the younger net saver asked. “It doesn’t look like any navi that I recognize, and it didn’t look like any of Chimeraman’s forms if there had chanced to be anything accidentally brought over from the separation.” Raika shook his head. “I don’t know,” he responded. “It seemed to be a custom default sword, though.” The cafeteria around him suddenly shifted to a scene of navis fighting. Raika was instantly angered, but as before, he could do nothing but watch the strange scene and hope that it was over soon. He recognized the same blue sword that had been on his own arm just a bit ago. The navi- whoever he was- was fighting desperately at several tall viruses with spears, his swords slashing fiercely several times before slicing through one of the viruses, causing it to disintegrate. Several more well-timed swipes stopped other viruses from counter-attacking. “There’s more coming from the left!” someone shouted. The navi’s head swerved toward the source of the voice, which was apparently another tall navi with dark red and blue-striped armor. “We’ve got to hold them off!” the tall navi stated. “Before more come to attack the city!” Beside him, a few other navis were also fighting the hoard. The vision bobbed slightly as if the navi nodded, and turned into a flip as the navi soared over the throng of viruses to jump twice more on first a window ledge, then a pole. He stopped as he landed on the roof. Raika could see several more viruses on the ground below, but the navi’s gaze moved until it seemed to settle on a distant lone figure that stood atop a building, a long staff in hand. “There,” the navi muttered. “He needs to be stopped before he calls even harder reinforcements.” The navi jumped from building to building, lessening the distance between the navi. Raika briefly wondered about the navi being too headstrong to attempt to handle an obvious enemy leader alone (and hoped that he could not be harmed if the navi was) but still could do nothing as the navi still leapt toward the enemy. His net op obviously slot in a battle chip, as the sword suddenly turned into a larger reddish one. The golden-colored enemy jumped to avoid the head-on attack. “So when is your group going to stop taking in strays?” he sneered. Raika heard a scuff. “Enough, Swingman,” the navi growled. “You know good and well that that has nothing to do with this attack that you started.” Swingman laughed as he avoided another desperate swipe of the navi’s red blade. “You’re not the leader of your pathetic rag-tag group, so why cannot I ask about something else?” The navi’s arms suddenly changed to two glowing swords, then brought them together to form a more powerful one. Raika recognized a basic program advance as it soared toward the unexpecting sudden wide-eyed enemy, who was slammed against a pillar in the center of the roof. “How did you . . .” Swingman shook his head as he stumbled upward again. “So your group finally decided to get serious, did it? Well, you’re not the only one with program advances.” Swingman raised his right arm, but before he did anything, bright light engulfed the navi’s vision, to be replaced by blue flashes. The navi’s view swung to his right, to see the red and blue navi holding a large rifle. “What are you thinking, trying to take him on by yourself?” the tall navi snarled, pausing only to shoot again at the enemy, was had attempted to rise again from the flat rooftop. “You know that he could easily destroy you if he calls more backup like he has many times before.” “Not him specifically,” the navi said. “The staff he has. It’s different.” The other navi narrowed his eyes. “It could be what controls those viruses,” he said, wonder in his voice. “But how to get it . . . It clearly has data from him. It will appear next to him if stolen, and would be much harder to attack while he’s holding it.” “Great, one of those?” the navi said, his voice discontented. “Maybe it’s only attached to him with some chip combination that his net op put on him.” The red and blue navi’s face turned surprised. “It could be,” he surmised. He then turned to the air, apparently speaking to a net op. “Send in a negate combination,” he added in a low tone. “You can control that?” the navi’s voice spoke up, astonished as several items appeared in front of the navi. His comrade nodded as he took first the short rope, then the small box, and placed them together. They glowed and combined with the other items to form a larger rope circle around Swingman, with a green-tinged aura inside. The enemy’s face became enraged as the staff in his hand simply faded, “That’s neat,” the navi spoke up. “Last time I saw someone try something similar to that, they managed to negate part of theirself, and had to get fixed afterward.” The red and blue navi nodded. “It takes some practice, but it’s worth it,” he stated. “This is only the second time that I have actually managed the combination, though.” “Only the second?” “It was worth it, though.” The navi then turned to Swingman, who was kneeling unsteadily, his face still angered as he stood, then forming his arm into a spear and raised his arm to strike- -The scene suddenly shifted from the cyber world and the golden-colored navi to a concerned Sci-lab medical employee. “Ah, so you’re back with us now?” the assistant asked. His tone was light, but Raika could see some concern. Raika nodded, immensely relieved that he was no longer trapped within the scene, so helpless that he could not do anything else. He was still feeling weary, almost equally matched with humiliation with his current condition (and that he was viewing odd things in the first place). He turned his head slightly to his right, but did not see Chaud there. “Chaud was called to fight some viruses in another part of Sci-lab,” the assistant responded. “You were- and are not- in any condition to join in, to say the least.” Raika nodded again, and self-consciously waited with the employee for a stretcher to come so that he could be carried by to his room. He was glad that at least Chaud was not there to see him carried so uselessly, even if he had seen him weakened earlier before the possible “memory” scene. A brief question to Searchman confirmed that his navi was at least not affected. It was a bit odd- the scenes almost had nothing to do with each other- one seemed part of a regular navi’s day helping his young civilian net op, and the other, a desperate battle with enemies in a group that did not seem like generic citizens. Perhaps both of them could be from vastly different times, though- if they were even real at all. In a relatively short time, he was in his room again. He then described the scene he had witnessed to both the assistant and Dr. Highton, who took some notes. “I can tell Dr. Hikari about this later,” the latter said. “Perhaps he or someone else can figure out more about it. However, even though you won’t like it, right now, I would definitely say you need to rest again.” Raika managed to not let out a frustrated sigh as the doctor left the room. He could only hope that his navi also would not be affected with the strange scenes, especially at a critical time such during a battle, though.--------------------------------- Raika aimed at several viruses in his and Searchman’s reverse cross fused form. Searchman was performing a scan for the runaway enemy, and while his navi did that, he could battle by himself easily with the low level viruses that were more than mere nuisances to the navi store owners nearby. He was almost glad that Chaud was still in the human realm, battling some viruses in a building near Sci-lab, although with a navi of a Sci-lab employee battling nearby him. Even though the navi was not looking directly at him, he knew that the navi was keeping a close watch, as ordered. A few minutes later, he heard Searchman speak. “The original enemy is three hundred meters to your left,” Searchman reported. Raika nodded slightly, aiming at a few small long-legged viruses that were climbing on a panicking civilian navi. The navi slumped forward slightly, relieved. He then dashed to where Searchman had indicated, and saw a few stray viruses, plus a very conspicuous tall navi heaving a large cannon in front of a building. Raika instantly recognized it as one that could absorb strength from other places, such as attacks (especially projectile ones) and even navis. Of course, there could be a limit on how much the weapon could absorb, which perhaps could even lead to the weapon disintegrating. Sometimes the types of cannons be that even for that, though, the weapon would only absorb what it could take and leave the rest of the attack weakened. He knew that not all of the former type were marked, so the weapon could be either. He would have to be careful about where he aimed Searchman’s main rifle weapon, and the speed of firing it. Raika purposely hid himself behind a podium that held a portal to another part of the city, and aimed with a weakening battle chip within the shot. As he had expected, the navi lost his grip on the cannon from the surprise attack, and slumped on the ground, futilely attempted to pick up the heavy weapon. A few minutes later, he aimed again, but at the weapon itself. The enemy had just wearily stood upward, but his face was quite angered as a thick layer of ice formed over the metal. Raika grimaced, knowing that it was quite likely that the navi could easily break through Searchman’s charged freeze shot. He quickly armed himself with another chip, and aimed- Raika stumbled forward exhaustion toward the ground, wincing slightly at a sharp pain in his right arm. From his viewpoint, he could barely see dark brown armor former on the upper part of his arm. “That is unknown data,” Searchman reported, his voice concerned. Raika sighed, knowing that Searchman at least recognized the armor type as being the same strange one from before, even though he had not encountered the specific data type before. He cringed a bit as Searchman’s rifle disappeared as the data flowed down his arm, forming a black and brown tinted glove. Of course, he was also not hidden by the transporter anymore. Raika looked up to see a few civilian navis glance in his direction concernedly, but backed up nervously. He was instantly furious with himself. Even what with Searchman had told him before, he was still certain that he was behind himself insanely turning into a navi at random times, including ones where the battle had been lost. He was quite certain that it was that way now. He should know some way to get the armor off of him, whether to negate it somehow- even though unlike the navi’s companion in the scenes earlier, he did not have any negating chips- or fighting it. He certainly did not want to become the brown-armored navi, after all. Surely he could do something . . . He managed to lift his head to see the enemy now lifting the ice-free cannon toward him, ignoring the armor that was halfway down to his waist. “I don’t care what tricks you’re going to pull,” the enemy snarled. “You’re going to pay for your little shots earlier.” Raika attempted to summon another chip, but failed. Even a defensive shield one that would not form onto him would not activate. He was about to de-cross fuse as a last resort, when a strong beam charged toward the enemy from his left. The enemy navi’s eyes widened in horror as his cannon simply dissipated, dissolving into pixels. The enemy frowned severely, then logged out. “That had a negating effect,” Searchman reported quietly. Raika frowned slightly, knowing that even though a navi had successfully completed a negating attack in the scene from earlier, not many civilian navis could handle the type of attack. He turned slightly, his eyes widening in recognition as he spotted slightly familiar red and blue armor. “That is the same navi’s companion,” he stated quietly. He briefly wondered where the Sci-lab employee’s navi was, but knew that he should also have information to report about the mysterious navi from the scene. Raika attempted to stand, but failed, pathetically flopping back onto the hard ground. He heard footsteps, wincing as he felt armor forming partly on his legs. He definitely hoped that his cognitive thinking would not be affected if it progressed much more. He heard footsteps come in his direction, then stop. Raika looked up expecting the Sci-lab employee’s navi, or at least a civilian one that wanted to help now that the immediate danger was over. Instead, he saw the red and blue navi extending an armored hand. Raika frowned, suspicious, but took it. The navi helped him to sit up beside the teleporter booth, then sat down beside him. “I was expecting someone else to attempt to fight that navi,” his temporary companion began somberly. “Then, now, there is armor forming on you that is clearly from a navi that I thought was lost.” Raika frowning inwardly- of course the navi thought he was also a cyber being only, but did not comment on the fact. “I would think that you would be more suspicious about that,” he remarked. “But you need not. I am a net saver with the proper authorities, unlike the previous enemy.” He winced again, feeling a few stabbing pains near his chest. He hoped that a strange navi’s symbol would not appear there- Searchman’s emblem had already disappeared from both of his gloves. Raika almost hoped that Searchman would somehow be able to sense if his thoughts were corrupted by the strange data, but of course that would not be something that his navi would be able to scan and discover. Surprisingly, the navi shook his head. “My name is Honeman,” he said quietly. “The data forming on you is from a friend that I thought had been crushed in a falling building three months ago. That battle was only four months before that. He name was- is- I hope, anyway- Raggedman. Even with the odd name, he was anything but weak.” Raika wondered about the latter part, due to what he had witnessed in the battle scene, but let the navi continue. Honeman smiled slightly, then raised his hand toward him. “Here, I can help with that,” he stated. Raika frowned, unsure of what the navi was going to do, or if his net op would attempt to send a few healing chips that could be used for other navis. “Before that, perhaps you can tell why you are here,” he stated, wincing again. “The information could be useful.” Honeman shook his head. “This won’t take long,” he replied. To his surprise, the navi’s hand began to glow, and suddenly, the pain and weakness suddenly vanished. Raika looked upward and blinked in astonishment, seeing a palmful of data that quickly formed into a small brown cube. He briefly looked down to see only Searchman’s familiar armor. He stood, briefly above the navi before he also straightened, making him a few inches shorter. Raika ignored the chatter of the confused civilian navis nearby, and looked at the taller red and blue navi. “Answer my questions,” he stated boldly. “As I had stated earlier, the information could be helpful.” Raika frowned in annoyance as the navi instead just closed his eyes. He opened them about half of a minute later. “This includes some trace data,” he muttered, gazing at the data cube he still held. He then turned his head sharply toward Raika. “Do you have an absorbing ability of some kind?” he asked, his voice abrupt. Raika shook his head, slightly irked that the civilian navi (or whoever he was) was asking questions about him. “No, nothing of the type-” “Then something must have caused the data to come onto you,” Honeman stated. “This is definitely part of Raggedman’s data, and from recently, at that.” He then narrowed his eyes. “Did you happen to sense anything- visual, hearing, or otherwise that was unusual?” Raika bristled at the civilian’s bold demands to a net saver. Then again, any information would be useful. With the apparently scanning ability, perhaps Honeman could even eventually discover what he had seen for himself. Of course, the data would need to at least at first be scanned in Sci-lab. Certainly letting possibly important data reside with an unknown navi would not help in any mission. Briefly, he described the two scenes, purposely leaving out details that would at least would be able to identify navis. Honeman frowned slightly. “That first one has to come before- well, from a while ago,” he amended. “The other . . . That was definitely before I thought he was lost, and his net op, also. But, yes, he did attempt to attack the navi before I-” His eyes suddenly widened. “Of course,” he whispered. “That cannon- it has properties similar to that staff. It had to be from that time with the staff, even though you didn’t mention that. The weapon wasn’t destroyed-” Honeman’s face suddenly turned angry as he turned away from Raika. “Of course, the building also wasn’t. I forgot about that, until you mentioned that battle. The navi should be inside the building, except it is elsewhere. It is just one that those crazy buildings that are not actually there, unless you know what you’re doing with it. Now how to contact someone that knows him . . . Both of his net op’s brothers are . . . well, unavailable . . .” “His net op has three brothers,” Raika stated plainly, remembering the first memory scene he had witnessed. “And one sister.” Honeman’s face turned confused. “He does?” he asked. “Huh, I did not know that.” His face suddenly brightened. “Of course, the friend that his net op mentioned before- having a flute that could supposedly fly,” he said, seemingly half to himself. “I never asked what that meant, but that may just be the other brother.” “It would be necessary to reveal yourself,” Raika warned. “I am a net saver, and it would be proper to present the data you hold to the proper authorities-” An armored hand suddenly flashed in front of his view, too quick for him to dodge. Raika was instantly angered at himself as he felt the reverse cross fusion dissolve. Surely Searchman by himself would have been quick enough to avoid the attack. “I think that you’re going to log out instead,” Honeman stated, his tone suddenly serious. “No one should figure out who we really are. Names won’t help you find us, even if you wanted to try to use them in any type of search.” Raika furiously attempted to stop the de-fusion, but his vision blurred until he was slumped on a cold tile floor, his PET clattering loudly beside him. A quick glance confirmed that Searchman was inside the device and unharmed. He had managed to shakily stand when he heard a voice. Raika turned to see the Sci-lab employee that had been in the room with him. “Are you all right?” the employee asked. “I saw that last bit since my navi was near you-” Raika frowned. “What of the navi now?” he interrupted. The employee turned to his PET in his left hand. His navi’s voice responded. “He’s gone,” he said. “He transported somehow just after dissolving the reverse cross fusion, but did not use the transporter.” “So he took the data with him,” the employee surmised. “That he did. There’s a lot of curious and really confused navis around, though.” The employee grimaced slightly. “Then you’ll not be a part of their investigation, then,” he stated, sighing slightly before raising his PET and jacking his navi out. He then turned toward Raika again. “Are you sure you’re all right?” he asked. “You could rest in one of the medical rooms.” Raika shook his head. “It’s just a bit of weakness,” he replied. “I should report to the area chief.” The employee frowned, seeming to not believe him, but he nodded. “All right, then,” he said. “I’ll just call up Dr. Hikari- with a request for a medical assistant.” Raika frowned slightly at the latter, but knew that the employee was most likely aware of his merge and other recent strange occurrences, as even apparently a child of another employee might know. Thankfully, he and Searchman were only scanned after a brief report with Chief Keifer. Dr. Hikari faced him, his face serious. “I was thinking a bit about this,” the scientist started. “Your scan- and Searchman’s- turned out normal, even after that navi’s data was gone. There is nothing amiss. I was wondering, though, about the part you had mentioned about trace data. It could be even a part that was somehow missed when you and Searchman had first used the original reverse cross fusion chip before it was modified for your merge.” Raika was instantly wary, but somehow managed to hide the emotion. “So there was nothing of any loose data inside Searchman?” he asked. Dr. Hikari shook his head. “No, nothing in either you or him. It could be that it could only be noticed within a scan when it formed visibly, or was otherwise toggled by something.” Raika frowned, remembering the cannon and building that had mentioned being not destroyed. He was not sure if they were actually what Honeman had stated, but he did not know how to discover it unless more information was known. “I wish I knew who both the navi you saw and the one whose data you briefly had were,” the scientist continued, seeming to echo what Raika was thinking. “But I don’t have any information on hand about them, or any of their abilities. Though I would hope that no more data is amiss again.” He face became more serious again. “Inform me or any authority immediately about any such changes again.” Raika nodded. “Yes, sir.” He was dismissed from the scanning area, and Raika returned to his room, sighing at yet another failure. Not only he had not defeated the enemy- another navi had, and a civilian one, at that- but he had not brought the data from the strange navi he had seen viewpoint scenes from to Sci-lab. Raika grimaced as he began to research the navi’s name, even with the warning from Honeman that any attempts would be futile. About an hour later of no results, he heard his PET’s alarm for emails beep. “It is a message from the civilian Dimitri Nao,” Searchman reported. Raika frowned, not wanting to talk to the civilian at the moment, even though he had reluctantly agreed to help him for a while. “Show me the message,” he replied wearily. He looked at his PET, frowning. The foster child civilian, still intent in the search for his lost siblings and his missing parents, had sent pictures and the names of everyone in his family that had had navis at the time that he had been sent to live in a foster home. The hand drawn computerized pictures seemed a bit too realistic to have been drawn by Dimitri himself- he assumed that his navi Sharpman had done that part. Raika briefly scanned through the drawings, not recognizing the cyber beings with various designs and hues of armor. He then frowned at the navi that was stated to have been with Dimitri’s father, Yvinji Nao- one with dark green and silver armor. The tall navi’s frame seemed almost familiar. Raika then frowned- he had definitely seen the navi before- or rather, “seen.” He wished that Searchman also had to confirm it, but he was quite certain. “That navi is one that was on the side of Honeman and Raggedman in the battle in the second memory,” he stated. Raika heard Searchman’s voice speak up, his voice slightly confused. “Yvinji was reported as having his PET with him, with his navi inside, when the car crash had occurred when Dimitri was six-years-old,” his navi said. Raika nodded. “The battle was supposedly much after that,” he said. He sighed. “Though of course it may mean nothing. I cannot assume that the scenes were completely accurate, or even real at all.” “You could ask for more information about the father’s navi, as well any known companions, including their net ops,” Searchman suggested. Raika nodded again. He did not know if the most recent merge effect would be actually useful somehow after all, though he would definitely want to see something positive from it, instead of the multiple failures, including the loss of the data cube and the lack of information he had come up with so far relating to the previous mission. “I can do that without telling Dimitri about the full report,” he stated. He did not want to engage any sort of false expectations to the hopeful civilian, but hopefully something would actually prove to be better for once, even if it was just finding some friend of Dimitri’s father that could even possibly talk to him.

Once LostMegaman one shot of a series. Summary: Raika decides to help a civilian in an odd way, but had not expected any help in return.Story on fanfiction.net Story on Archive of Our Own Megaman series on Archive of Our Own------------------------------- Raika sighed slightly as he looked at his laptop screen. He could sometimes almost imagine that the recent odd attack from an enemy navi had not occurred- and utterly nothing to do with his and Searchman’s merge, strangely enough- but other times . . . Of course, it did not help with what he was currently doing. Of all coincidences, Swiftman, the lone navi that resided in Sci-lab until further notice, had named his former chimera “twin” Dimitri- the very name that he was looking at the moment. He managed to somewhat shove the uncomfortable feelings aside that his “twin” was better than somewhere inside him again- and most likely, never to appear again. He could attempt to help another Dimitri, the foster child that he had more or less promised to attempt to discover some about his family, including his absent father who had been presumed dead by authorities. Raika frowned as he scanned the list of possible names of foster children in various areas, discarding several that were obviously irrelevant. Others were possibilities that he could work with. He was quite sure that he had already managed to at least discover Dimitri’s fraternal twin (he managed to not blanch again at the thought of another twin), Benji Nao. The youth was not too similar in appearance to his apparent brother, but his first and last name was the same, and his middle was the same as the one list of an elementary school unit registry that had both Dimitri and Benji in the same kindergarten class. He frowned, then sent the recent school photograph, as well as the elementary one to the civilian’s email address. A few age progression sequences had also shown that the two youths might be the same person- hopefully Dimitri would recognize his brother, even if it had been several years since then. Then again, his navi would certainly have better memory of it. For some reason, both brothers had received a navi at a very young age. Raika then turned back to the father- Yvinji Nao. According to sources, witnesses had seen the car that he and his wife were driving burst into flames after a collision. He was not sure how Dimitri could even think that either of his parents were living, unless it was sheer denial. Unlike Benji, there were no pictures on file, including from older school records. He had found the supposedly late father’s residence, as well as his wife, Miriam. The children were unfortunately not listed, though the large number of offspring were given, including their ages (but not their birthdays). Dimitri and Benji were most likely the two six-year-olds on the list. The message alarm from his PET beeped suddenly. Raika got out his PET to see Searchman waiting there. “It is a message from the Sharian civilian Dimitri,” Searchman reported. Raika nodded, frowning a bit, as he had just recently sent a message. He hoped that whatever the civilian had to say was relevant. “Show me the message,” he stated. So far, the civilian had not been intrusive and wanting to chat randomly as civilians might, especially when it was not needed, but he could not always hope that would be the case. His navi pulled up the email, and Raika frowned at the contents. Apparent the civilian was very eager to speak to him- for the reason that he had apparently managed to find his twin, after all. Raika sighed, not truly wanting to communicate directly with an over-eager civilian with an unnecessary loud hertz volume, as he had certainly heard before in some residential communities. However, he could resign this one time, at least. He was in Sci-lab still currently, and not his military school, the latter of which he would have less time for such conversations. Raika sent back an affirmative response, hoping that it would not turn out to be a mistake, and soon, he had started a video call with the dark-green haired civilian that coincidentally looked a bit like himself. He was instantly glad to not hear a tumult of background noise as he had expected, since the youth lived in a foster home. The youth, Dimitri, smiled some. “Thank you,” he said. “I mean- that picture that you sent- my navi said that it really is Benji. He remembers as whole lot more than I do. Oh, I’m in one of the small study rooms in a library. I didn’t think that you wanted a bunch of screaming in the background. Some of the younger kids at the home didn’t like some of the older kids throwing snow at them.” Glad as he was that Dimitri seemed to be controlling his tone- for now- he just truly wanted to be done with the call already so he could research for his classes- not to mention, not be caught by someone randomly helping a civilian when he truly did not need to. Of course, a military cadet showing only disinterest in others that needed aid was not truly proper behavior. Though the military was not supposed to be excessive in what they did, helping others was one thing that they were trained to do, including smaller missions that had nothing to do with battling. What he was doing currently, though, certainly could be called excessive by his superiors, though. “I would hope that the pictures are correct,” Raika stated evenly, attempting to not show his concerns. Dimitri nodded. “They really seem to be,” he replied. “I don’t have any pictures of him. I wasn’t allowed to have anything from my house when my parents were reported to have died, and all of the photos on my PET were deleted, including a few with Benji that Hilya- that’s one of my older sisters- had insisted on taking with my PET.” He frowned a bit. “I don’t really remember those pictures, except the one that we were at the bottom of a slide together, and maybe one that were in some net battling arena, but not really the others. My navi remembers them clearly, but even with what he said, I don’t. But I wish I had them now, though. I think that there was a picture of my dad in another one of them, pretending some cup was a drum. I think Benji took that one.” Raika inwardly frowned a bit, not only by the civilian’s incessant chattering, but also since he certainly would not have been so lax with who handled his PET, even though he had also received a PET when he was a few years older. “Is there anything else that you wish to converse about?” he asked. Dimitri then grinned a bit. “You really don’t like to stop and chat, right? I don’t blame you, being military trained to do things orderly. But I was also hoping to give some other information that might help, too- and a request. You really don’t have to do the request if you don’t want to. I can give you my other sibling’s names, if that would help.” Raika nodded, inwardly sighing a bit. “That would be useful, as well as birthdates, if you would know them. I do not have a complete list.” Dimitri then named all of his siblings- all thirteen of them, including a then eight-month old infant. Raika was slightly surprised, as he had not actually expected the parents to have that many children after all, but he knew that some families did. His two uncles both had several, but a few less. His navi helped with the birthdates when his net op stumbled a bit on a few. Dimitri then looked at them earnestly. “Did you find out about anything else about my parents, including where they are?” Raika sighed slightly. “No, sorry, I was not able to discover anything else about them besides their full names and former residence, but no photographs or gravesites,” he responded. “You couldn’t find their names in a grave index if they were living,” Dimitri retorted. Raika did not truly want to argue with the perhaps slightly delirious civilian. “I do not know if I could discover any further information about them,” he stated, deliberately keeping his response vague. “Some records are either hidden to most searches, including those with passcodes and otherwise, or have information that is corrupted or lost.” Dimitri frowned. “I would go with ‘corrupted’ or maybe even stolen,” he answered, but his tone soft as he was speaking to himself. Raika glanced at the clock on his laptop, but knew that he had plenty of time before the next scan for himself and Searchman at Sci-lab. “You had a request?” The civilian nodded, his face becoming a bit hesitant. “I . . . well . . .” He stopped, then continued again. “I get shifted so often between foster homes that I have never really become friends with anyone, and so I don’t really know anyone that I could trust to do this and not call the police about it.” “I will not go against policies for basic safety rules and regulations,” Raika answered bluntly, just managed to keep his voice even. Dimitri blanched a bit. “No, not that,” he swiftly replied. “It’s just something that is not technically in the rules, but, well, you don’t have to agree to it.” “I cannot agree or disagree to something if I do not know what it is.” Dimitri sighed. “Well, I already told you that I can’t talk to Benji or any of my siblings,” he stated. “It’s not allowed. I can’t email them, or even just chat with them if I happen to actually see them- which I haven’t,” he added. Raika was not sure whether to believe him or not for the latter, but let the civilian continue. “I was just hoping that you could message Benji instead- if he still has the same email and everything- and then share what he says to me.” Raika stared, frowning severely. “You want me to skirt around policies that were already laid out and hope to not get caught,” he said. “Well . . . yes,” Dimitri admitted. “I just . . . I have not seen Benji in so long. He is my brother, and it’s not just that he’s my twin.” Again Raika managed to thwart another slight longing for his chimeric “twin” that he had only briefly seen. “We used to get along really well. I remember him the most of my family- and his navi, really, who got along well with mine. I just hope that he would actually remember me- and still, well, like me, I guess.” Raika sighed inwardly at the emotional reaction. Then again, perhaps many people, including civilians, actually were well acquainted with their kin as opposed to the brief negative responses that he had been exposed to many times, especially from the younger ones. Of course, the youth he was speaking with currently was certainly not used to speaking to anyone besides civilians, who could often think that rules did not apply to them (and then if the situation turned worse with their actions, the military might have to aid in the disaster that followed). This time, of course, if he participated, he would most likely be reprimanded, and Raika did not want further punishment such as a lesser amount of permissions with missions than he already had with merge effects. “I suppose that you would want to do this sort of work-around transaction with your other siblings, if they are also discovered?” Raika questioned. Dimitri winced some. “Well, I kind of thinking about that,” he admitted. “I know that I really want to talk with Benji again the most.” “Thirteen siblings are not just one person,” Raika countered. “Did you find any of them?” Raika nearly rolled his eyes at the obvious purposeful change in topic, but relented. “I would be more likely to find more with the information you have given me. However, I have possibly found four, including an eight-year-old that had been adopted into another family four years prior. For the latter, I also found an accompanying photograph.” Dimitri frowned. “Adopted?” “It stands to reason with younger children being put into foster homes, without any other known relatives.” The civilian face became slightly annoyed, and Raika hoped that he would not start shouting. “What’s her adopted name?” he asked, his tone still angered. “Galya Ria Bendentsen,” Raika responded, after checked his laptop again. Dimitri blinked. “Galya? She was just three.” “Black hair with dark brown eyes?” Raika stated. The youth nodded. “But at lot of people could have those traits.” “Of course.” “Could I see the picture?” Dimitri asked hesitantly. Raika sent the photograph, which had been accompanied by a caption that stated merely stated that the family had been one to help with volunteering in a homeless shelter. The article he had gotten it from was from the newspaper local to the area, and was only two months old. Raika watched the youth’s face, but the civilian did not seem appeased. “I don’t know,” he said slowly. He then looked down. “What do you think about it, Sharpman?” A low tone answered. “It could be, but I don’t want to say for sure,” the navi responded. The first and middle names are the same, and there are features that could be from your parents, but with the age gap, I’m not really certain. Some human children would be more obvious in keeping a very similar appearance while they age, but not all, though.” Dimitri nodded, his face a bit saddened. “What about the others?” he asked, clearly wanting to change the topic. Raika gave the possible names. The civilian and his navi ruled out two of them instantly, while the third, a younger child that was currently living with a foster family- the one that would have been in infant- was still a tentative possibility. “Erika would be even harder to recognize than Galya,” Dimitri muttered, disappointed. “Well, humans do have this way of aging,“ Sharpman stated lightly, but his net op did not smile. Dimitri sighed a bit. “Thanks for the help,” he said. “I guess you really don’t want to help with Benji. I’m fine with that. I understand why you wouldn’t want to. I wish that I could speak with any siblings that I might find, but the rules are still there, as you said.” Raika managed to slightly thrust down another queer sudden longing for his missing chimeric twin. He suddenly remembered some of his cousins laughing together while playing some video game, while he was merely watching in the background. They had not wanted to include him, the sometimes unwanted visitor that his parents seemed to shove at other relatives’ families until he had applied for the junior military, but that did not deter them from enjoying each other’s company even though he had been there. He had never had a sibling to enjoy being with himself (again he attempted to shove the other Dimitri from his mind), but he should not attempt to always just try to force other siblings away from each other, including if they had not had the chance to see one another for years due to odd circumstances. If he was careful enough, no one, any authority included, would ever find out about it. “I . . . could aid in this transaction, if the known contact information is actually correct,” he relented. “However, do not take it as a permanent connection. I would not enjoy being punished for this as much as you would.” He at least hoped that the civilian would think of the consequences such as being severely penalized. Dimitri’s eyes widened in surprise. “You really would do that?” “For now, but again, not on a permanent basis.” “I’ll send Benji Nao’s at least former email address now,“ Sharpman instantly stated, his tone slightly eager. Raika sighed slightly, hoping that he would not be getting into something too obviously against the rules. -------------------------------------- Raika aimed carefully at the darkloid in front of him. He was quite glad that it looked nothing, the lone navi in Sci-lab that he had spoken to. His superiors there had not been pleased with his late night “visit” a while ago just after his chimeric “twin” had been reunited with him, to say the least, and had specifically forbidden any contact with the navi. However, the lone navi had helped the other “Dimitri” (sometimes he was not sure what to think about him) actually choose to sacrifice himself. He certainly was not certain what to think of the somewhat odd choice still. It did not help that the “other” Dimitri was nearby. To his surprise, just about a week after returning in Sharo, Raika had been soon called to a mission suited to cross fusion. A few military back-ups were nearby, including a cadet that Raika had worked with before with other missions, and Princess Pride would be summoned if necessary, as the closer cross fuser. However, by sheer chance, the mission had been where the civilian Dimitri Nao had happened to be at the moment. The civilian had managed to be trapped in the dimensional area somehow, but before cross fusing, he had severely told him to head to a safer place. He hoped that he had listened, as most people with common sense would to that. He fired, and the darkloid dodged underneath the beam easily. Raika dodged behind another building that had been evacuated hours earlier when an alarm for a severe cyber invasion had been sounded. It was lucky that other net agents had been able to ride the network of viruses before it overheated, and the darkloid had then emerged in the human realm (he managed to shove more than a bit of annoyance that he had not been called on until cross fusion had been needed). Raika activated a battle chip- the darkloid was fast, but not quite fast enough to dodge something that would come at him from behind if he was unaware of it. Searchman helped him to locate the exact positions he wanted, and then he fired, a thin evasive translucent blue-hued beam that the enemy again easily dodged. Raika had another battle chip ready, a shield that he triggered immediately after he had fired. The beam rebounded and struck the enemy from behind, stronger than before, causing the darkloid to falter as it stumbled on the asphalt ground. Just as he had expected, the darkloid stood up straight again shot back at him with its small cannon that it had used once before instead of an axe. Raika then caused another redirecting shield to appear, and at the same time, triggering one of the offensive abilities that it had. The enemy’s beam charged toward him- then bounced backward, shifting direction instantly, going three times as fast as it had come. The darkloid yowled- then logged out in a shower of pixels. Raika frowned- of course now, he would have to follow the enemy to the cyber world. It was a good thing that he had not encountered any others like it, despite that there were multiple viruses to defeat before the darkloid had been visible. He quickly de-cross fused, and headed inside the building for a jack-in port, attempting to ignore that another cadet came running in behind him, obviously ordered by the military officials to follow him. Raika entered one of the building’s side rooms, and pressed the button on his PET that would transport his navi to the cyber world, the cadet doing the same. He soon saw his navi and the one from the cadet on a computer screen that had been left on. The darkloid was there, smashing various sized platforms in its anger, but it smiled as it turned around. “Ah, welcome to my realm,” he said, waving a hand around. “I knew that I was not able to fight as well out there, but I wanted another chance to finish you. Alas, it has come back to here.” Raika was not impressed by the darkloid’s confidence- he knew another recent enemy that had been so certain that it’s three rifle ability would be able to send a large platform straight onto Searchman and crush him, but had not expected that Searchman’s combination of chip use that had transformed several pieces of it that it had sliced through one rifle and cause the others and with the force of the attack, the platform to explode. Of course, though, he had then been lucky then that the enemy had not expected any sort of counter attack. It could very well be that this one would. From what he had seen, the darkloid liked to depend on its small axe, swinging it around in various positions. He did not know of any long range attacks, besides the lesser powerful cannon. However, he was already wary of what the darkloid had said. The particular cyber network did not seem too different from many others, except with perhaps a few more platforms than usual. Some places liked to have more barriers in the networks for viruses and others to possibly be distracted in to better stay away from important firewalls and otherwise. He frowned, wondering why he had not seen the darkloid use more powerful attacks while he was cross fused. He did not want his opponent to be given the chance to use platforms if they were truly a part of his power, though. Raika raised a shield as the darkloid came with a hefty swing of its axe. Just after the shield dissipated, he entered a few chips and had his navi aim at the ground, sending a hoard of cyber-being weakening powers in the darkloid’s general area, plus the nearest platforms nearby. The blast also sent bits of data debris flying toward the enemy, who merely laughed as most of them bounced off of his armored frame. “You think that pixel bits are going to harm me?” he guffawed. “Really, someone from the military should really know how to fight short range. You’re just useless!” Raika had heard both particular jabs before, but knew that he could not allow himself to suddenly just attempt to attack short range only. He narrowed his eyes as Searchman expertly dodged another swing of the axe, and the cadet’s navi fired from its default cannon. He then saw the darkloid raise his other arm, and then frown. “Well, you certainly weakened the area a bit,” he stated with a stern scowl. “But that little trick cannot stop me. I may not be able to use such an ability in the puny human world, where there is mostly nothing of this sort. But pure data- wonderful pure data- is mine!” Raika winced as the ground and platforms around them glowed a harsh blue, then lessened to their usual lined hues, and he knew that the temporary weakening effects that Searchman had placed in the them had most likely been reversed. There was a humongous crunch as a large piece of a platform was detached from the top of one nearby, and Raika cringed a bit as it slammed into his navi and the cadet’s, and both were thrown against another pillar. For a brief moment, he wished that his navi had negating powers for certain abilities, but that definitely would not help currently. Raika then frowned as Searchman determinedly stood- the darkloid would not have control of every single thing in that particular cyber network. Of course, what he was not in control of was what most navis did not reach, especially ones that generally only fought on the ground. He and fought for a while with chips that needed little effort from his navi, seemingly attempting to just block the various methods of platforms and the ground thrown at his navi, including right below him. The cadet fired some shots that the darkloid mostly just quickly blocked or dodged. Several minutes later, he let his navi fire, seemingly at yet another piece of a broken tile, plus a piece of the ground. Raika entered another chip, and the beam missed while Searchman dodged low as both projectiles flew above his armored form. The beam soared upward, and with its power from the charging, did not dissipate as it rose higher and higher. Raika slot in a few more chips, and the beam wrapped around a part of the framework in the sky, bringing it downward as fast as it had come upward. The darkloid’s eyes widened. “No one ever figures that out!” he spat just before the load crushed his large form. Raika tensed, knowing that the darkloid still was beneath the ceiling network fragments. He ordered Searchman to fire a net, but before his navi raised his rifle, several platforms grew thinner, and raised themselves in the air, hovering above the two navis. He then narrowed his eyes in confusion as there seemed to be a translucent blue shield form around Searchman’s nearly hidden frame, as well as his temporary partner. At the same time, a large blast came from behind the darkloid, who was emerging from the rubble with a smirk. He had not seen the cadet enter any chips prior to that that seemed to be capable of the abilities. The shield seemed to be not only defensive, as it glowed some, and sent the platform bits rebounding away instead of merely landing on top of the shield. At the same time, the powerful beam hit the darkloid from behind it, sending it sprawling onto the ground. “I hate back up!” he shouted, before disappearing once again. Raika frowned, but a short scan from his navi confirmed that the darkloid was not anywhere in the cyber network anymore, and he had also not received any notification that it had emerged outside the building. “I wonder where those abilities came from,” the cadet next to him mused as he jacked out his own navi. “I did not receive notice of any of military personnel in the building.” Raika frowned, but did not have an answer. For all he knew, though, there was more military backup that he was not aware of in the building anyway- until he saw two small figures in the distance, a ways from Searchman. His navi, built with better skills, including vision, frowned. “Those are not military navis,” Searchman said firmly. Raika huffed, but watched the figures come closer, seemingly without malicious intentions, unlike the darkloid. Neither of them seemed familiar, though both clearly resembled each other in looks, even with slightly different colored armor. The smaller of them spoke, looking around the area where the darkloid had been. “That guy seems to be gone,” he said, frowning some. The other navi nodded. “I would hope so.” Raika frowned a bit- the first voice seemed slightly familiar. “Their net ops must be in one of the rooms nearby,” he said to the cadet. The taller of the navis, with blue and red hints on his black armor turned toward them and spoke again, clearly having heard Raika. “Our net ops meant no harm,” he said. “They had taken refuge in this building when the large cyber shield came into the human world. We were jacked in when there were more viruses that had jammed a door, then wanted to only aid in the battle with the strong navi. We just wanted to see if the enemy was truly gone.” Raika let the improper wording of the dimensional area and darkloid pass- he had heard much worse descriptions, including outrageously incorrect notions, including strange civilians actually thinking that the darkloid was on side of the law. “You will let us go to your net ops,” Raika said. “They did help this time for this battle, but not all civilians should engage in battles that might be beyond them.” The shorter one looked at its comrade, but he merely shrugged, then spoke. “We apologize for any intrusion of the larger battle, but the viruses from earlier seemed common, and were easy to defeat.” “Where are your net ops’ locations?” Raika asked instead. The shorter one spoke this time. “Just a few rooms left of where the cyber network for this one should be.” “Have them stay there until we come,” Raika ordered. Both navis nodded, and Searchman and the cadet’s navi followed the two civilian ones while Raika and his current companion raced into the hallway. He was sure of the shorter navi’s voice- Sharpman, Dimitri Nao’s navi. Sure enough, when he quickly opened the door, there was the civilian with the same name as his “chimeric twin”, as well as another familiar figure, though he had only seen the youth in a picture. Raika chided himself slightly as he closed the door, the cadet beside him. Perhaps he should have guessed who the other navi’s owner was, with the similarities Sharpman and his taller companion. He did not know what Dimitri was doing in that area with his lost twin brother Benji, but he guessed that they had managed to arrange a meeting together before the darkloid and viruses had interrupted it- he had not actually looked at the emails that they had sent through him to each other . . . Raika had hoped his leniency in allowing privacy would not in anything against the law (besides technicalities), but them together certainly was. Then again, he wondered again why there had been such a law in their home area that sudden orphaned siblings were to not see each other in any circumstances, other than a lack of space for all of them in the same foster home, including since they were gender specific. Even so, that particular enforcement seemed a bit odd, especially if the siblings did not have a criminal background. He had not been able to find any sort of misconduct reported anywhere, including from Dimitri himself. He saw both Dimitri and Benji together, jacking out their navis. The former looked at him with a defying look, still holding his PET, countered by a bit of fear. Benji seemed calmer, through his face also seemed a bit nervous. Of course, Dimitri would have described him to his brother, and both had possibly seen him during the short cross fusion battle. Raika then purposely turned his gaze to his military companion. “They do not seem to have done anything countering the law, correct?” he suggested, his tone firm. “From what I can tell, they do not have the tools for such a thing, especially regarding their age and Searchman’s report in nothing amiss from his post battle scan.” If the cadet suspected anything unusual, he did not show it. “I also, do not see anything to report, other than they entered a battle without consent. As known, though, they did manage to provide aid, whether intentional or not.” “Of course it was intentional,” Dimitri muttered. Raika frowned, but merely spoke instead. “They need to see our superiors to report on their actions, but after that, they most likely will be released without any concern,” he stated mildly. “You will, of course, come.” He directed the last part to the two brothers. Both nodded, the relief evident in their faces. The distance to the military personnel was short, and both civilians- even without being asked to give their last names- were both soon allowed to walk away without incident. Raika then gave a brief report on the battle, which the cadet with him confirmed, and soon he was riding in the back of a vehicle that was heading back toward the base. A few minutes later, he received the notification for an email. Raika quickly opened his PET to see that it had come from his lesser email, sent by Dimitri. The message was brief- “Thank you.” Raika smiled inwardly as he closed his PET and watched the road pass by him, burdened by only a few other passing vehicles. He could not have his chimeric twin back, but he was certain- he hoped, anyway- that it had been fine to let Dimitri be with his own lost brother, even just for a little while.
